The Temple Shalom Library serves congregants of all ages interested in materials of Jewish content and culture, and by Jewish authors.
Hours
Anyone can use the library when the temple is open. You are welcome to check out books on an honor system.
Librarians are on duty on Sundays during Religious School, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during Hebrew School.
PJ Library
Temple Shalom is proud to partner with the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington to bring the PJ Library to Chevy Chase. In partnership with PJ Library, we engage families with young children between the ages of six months and eight years. Once you sign up, PJ Library will send a new book with a Jewish theme to your home FREE for your family to enjoy with no strings attached! Reading these books at bedtime (PJ = pajama!) is a wonderful way to create meaningful Jewish moments between parents and children.
Temple Shalom is now also a partner with PJ Our Way for kids ages 9-11. PJ Our Way is kid-driven with the kids choosing their own books, creating a totally tailored experience based on their own interests and reading level. To make the choice easier, the PJ Our Way website includes summaries and author bios, along with ratings, reviews, and video trailers created by members themselves. Kids can also take polls and quizzes, participate in monthly interviews and challenges, post their own reviews, and comment on blog posts in a kid-safe, moderated online space.
As a PJ Library or PJ Our Way family, you will join hundreds of families in the Metro D.C. area and thousands of families in more than 160 other communities across North America who explore the timeless core values of Judaism through the art and literature of these free children’s books. And each year, Temple Shalom partners with PJ Library to bring Jewish programming to Temple Shalom and bring our members to programming around our area.
