Tikkun Olam Committee Toy Drive

Part of preparing a home to welcome refugees is to ensure that their children find a soft landing, are able to be kids, and adjust to their new lives. No home is complete without toys for children.
Now through June 3, the Tikkun Olam Committee is asking the Temple Shalom community to support Homes Not Borders — an organization with whom we have worked to set up apartments for newly arrived refugees over the past year — with a toy drive for children ages 2-16. This will provide the new homes with age-appropriate games, toys and arts and crafts. Many of these children have left everything behind and would otherwise not have any toys available to them in their new homes.
New games, toys and activities (including arts and crafts) that would most be appreciated include puzzles, Jenga, Uno, Lotto-type matching games, and activity books (like mazes, dot-to-dot, fun coloring books with cool gel pens, etc.). Keep in mind there is likely a lack of English language skills, so complicated games that require a lot of reading are best avoided. Avoid war-themed toys and games. Please do not donate stuffed animals.
It would be wonderful if you ask your own kids (and grand-kids) what type of toys they would be most interested in and what they would like to share with this new community of children arriving in the US. No one knows better what kids would like than other kids.
Please drop off donations in the bin provided in the lower lobby at Temple Shalom by June 3.
