About Our Services

From High Holy Days and weekly Shabbat worship, to monthly Tot Shabbat Services, Congregational Potluck Dinner, and Family Services, Temple Shalom offer members of all ages the tools to build their own foundation in Jewish values. Temple members launched a successful lay-led midweek minyan. Our vibrant Shabbat morning study has grown into a deep and enriching experience of worship and exploration of Judaism.

Visitors and guests are always welcome. If you'd like to let us know in advance you are visiting for the first time, please email ten.molahselpmet@pihsrebmem, and we will try to connect you with a member so you do not pray alone.

General Schedule

The schedule below reflects our normal, non-pandemic, in-person schedule. Please always check the Weekly Schedule to re-confirm details for a specific service, including whether it is in-person, virtual, or both.

At Temple Shalom, we take the commandment to 'celebrate' Shabbat seriously. Our Friday Shabbat services are joyful, warm and welcoming, with something to touch both the mind and heart. A variety of worship experiences throughout the month provide members different ways to engage the power of prayer - and the potential of Jewish spirituality to reach our souls and change our lives.

Friday Shabbat services typically take place at the following times (unless otherwise noted on our full calendar):

  • January-June: 7:30pm
  • July-August: 6:00pm
  • September-December: 7:30pm

Although children are welcome at all services, the first Friday of most months (except in July) is specifically designed for families.

Tot Shabbat at 5:30pm
Tot Shabbat introduces Judaism to children not yet old enough to read.  This service is filled with music and movement! Come at 5:30 pm for services. Then stay for dinner.

Potluck Dinner at 6:15pm
Beginning at 6:15pm, bring a fish or vegetarian main or side dish to share in the Social Hall. Between Tot Shabbat and Family Services, we usually have well over 100 members join for dinner.

Prospective Members or visitors (with or without children) are always welcome at our Potluck Dinner as our guest; just email ten.molahselpmet@pihsrebmem to let us know you are coming so we can make sure we connect with you!

Family Services at 7:30pm
Beginning at 7:30 pm, these services last about one hour and are usually led by one of our Religious School grades. Services feature our fabulous Temple Shalom Youth and Teen Choirs with camp-style music on guitar to engage and uplift all ages, while the rabbi usually tells a story or offers a grade-appropriate sermon.

Festive Oneg Shabbat following services
Following services, we retreat to the Social Hall to enjoy a great selection of desserts, cheese, and fruit. We thank our B’Nai Mitzvah families for sponsoring many of our Onegs.

Every Shabbat Morning at 10:00am - Shabbat Morning Worship and Torah Study
A fairly brief Shabbat morning service in the Chapel that includes a reading from the Torah scroll and prayer, followed by in-depth Torah study and informal congeniality. Shabbat Morning Worship and Torah Study is led by members of our clergy team and lay leaders who engage us in a lively discussion on our most fundamental sacred text. The service and study typically ends around noon or a little after, and is informal in dress and demeanor. The group is welcoming and engaging and children and adults with any level and background (including new to study and prayer) are warmly welcomed to services and study (or one or the other if preferred). We also welcome life-cycle events including baby namings and aufrufs (pre-marriage blessings) to take place during this service.

Bar/Bat/Simchat Mitzvah Shabbat Morning Service at 10:00am
Held in the Sanctuary on most Saturday mornings, this is the service at which the youth of our congregation step into their roles as "teachers of Torah, leaders of prayer." Temple Shalom prides itself that our Bar or Bat Mitzvah does not merely participate in the service, but truly leads the service from start to finish. This service reflects our pride in our students, and their commitment to continue their Jewish education represents, in turn, the best hope for the next generation of Jewish adults. All are welcome to attend these services, which end at noon when there is one Bar or Bat Mitzvah, and at 12:30pm when it is a double. Temple Shalom has a B’Nai Mitzvah service most weeks from March through June and September through December. Check the calendar for dates.

Wednesday Morning Minyan at 7:45am
Every Wednesday morning, a group of people meet at 7:45am to shmooze (chat) and then hold a morning service at 8:00am in the Chapel.

The shacharit (morning) service is informal, fully participatory (no specific leader), and amended as the heart dictates. There is no Hebrew literacy required.

This service offers an opportunity to say Kaddish (the Jewish prayer of mourning, customarily recited every day in the year following the loss of a loved one) or acknowledge any event in a Jewish manner.

Stepping into a new Reform congregation or any new spiritual community can be intimidating no matter where you stand on your Jewish and spiritual journey. See  Our Guide to Services to learn more about the structure of a typical service, how to participate, and feel comfortable with our customs and traditions.
