Interfaith Power & Light has recognized Temple Shalom as a 2016 Winner of its Cool Congregations Challenge

Interfaith Power & Light has recognized Temple Shalom as a 2016 Winner of its Cool Congregations Challenge. IPL, whose mission is “to be faithful stewards of Creation by responding to global warming through the promotion of energy conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy,” invited congregations nationwide to enter the Challenge. Executive Director Susan Zemsky responded by submitting for consideration the Temple’s Bright Idea energy-efficient lighting program and fundraiser. The rest is history! The program, which involved replacing over 400 standard light fixtures inside and outside the building and furnishing them with new, high-efficiency bulbs, is now complete. We are saving energy and money—and can see better, as well, since the new lights are brighter than regular incandescent bulbs.
