Update & Request for Input from Rabbi Search Committee

Dear Temple Shalom Members,

We hope that August finds you well.  As we shared in our July update, Temple Shalom's search for a new settled senior rabbi is now actively under way.  More details are available here.  We seek your input as the search committee prepares to initiate the application process next month with the Joint Commission on Rabbinic Placement of the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR).

The search committee has prepared a draft description of Temple Shalom and the opportunity that Temple Shalom offers.  We are inviting your thoughts and suggestions on the draft, which you can download by clicking here.

The purpose of the draft that we are sharing today is two-fold:  (1) to provide all of our congregation visibility into how the search committee will be framing the search and our community, and (2) to provide any potential applicants who might be curious about our congregation with an easily accessible, short description of the congregation and the opportunity.

In developing this draft, the search committee built on the exceptional efforts of the Future Committee report and the Interim Rabbi Search Committee.  That work collected broad and deep input from the congregation, giving a rich sense of what our community wants in a settled rabbi.  In addition, to capture a picture of our congregation, the search committee pulled together information that is available on our website into a more concise format.

The document that we are sharing today is intended as a simplified description of the position that we can publicly post on the Temple website in September as one part of the search process.  The process also includes the submission of a more formal required confidential application with the Joint Commission on Rabbinic Placement.

We welcome your input by Friday, September 1.  If you have suggestions about the language or ideas in the document, please submit them to the search committee at rabbisearch@templeshalom.net.  The search committee will consider all input and may use it to inform both what is reflected in this description and in the confidential application to CCAR.

If you have any comments, information or ideas other than feedback on the draft that you would like to share with the search committee, please email them to rabbisearch@templeshalom.net or mail your comments to the Temple in an envelope addressed to the search committee at Temple Shalom, 8401 Grubb Road, Chevy Chase, MD 20815.
