We hope that you are all enjoying the summer. As the co-chairs of the Senior Rabbi Search Committee, we wanted to update you on the work so far, and let you know that we will be seeking your input in the coming weeks.
There is no more important task in the life of a congregation than choosing a new senior rabbi, and the Search Committee is committed to undertaking this work with a spirit of community, putting the best interests of Temple Shalom at the forefront. Our search committee's work will build on the exceptional efforts of the Future Committee [report found here] and the Interim Rabbi Search Committee. That work collected broad and deep input from the congregation, giving a rich sense of what our community wants in a settled rabbi. That input will guide and inform the search committee's work.
The members of the search committee have been selected. We are deeply grateful to have a group with such extraordinary talents, energy and commitment to Temple Shalom. Collectively, the members of the search committee represent a wide diversity of perspectives from within the Temple Shalom community. You can see a list of the members of the search committee and read about each of them here.
We know that there are many questions about the search process, and so we have begun a list of Frequently Asked Questions that is available here. We plan to update this information periodically as we hear from congregants. If you have questions that are not yet answered, please feel free to contact us at email@example.com.
We have learned that these searches have a fairly standard timeline, which we have outlined here.
All of these documents can be found on the Temple website through the Rabbi Search link under the "About" tab that you can find here. We plan to send regular updates to you about the process, which will also be posted on the website.
To meet our timeline and ensure that we will be ready to submit our application to the Joint Commission on Rabbinic Placement, the organization that will send us eligible rabbi applicants, we will be seeking input from the congregation in early August. Please watch your email for this opportunity.
If you have any comments, information or ideas that you would like to share with the Search Committee, please email them to firstname.lastname@example.org or mail your comments to the Temple in an envelope addressed to the Search Committee at Temple Shalom, 8401 Grubb Road, Chevy Chase, MD 20815.
