Dear Fifth Grade Families,
- This past Sunday: This past Sunday we began to learn about Israel’s Law of Return. First we played a game to see how immigration can be complicated. Then we discussed our opinions on the Law of Return and debated its pros and cons in a class Beit Din (Court of Justice). Ask your student their opinion on the Law of Return. We will continue our discussion next week when we explore more details about the Law of Return. We also had some tefillah (prayer) time with Cantor Lisa and ended class by finishing our poster presentations! Look for those videos soon!
- Introducing Israel in the News: As teachers and students we are always trying to learn more about Israel and Judaism. We know that learning about Israel doesn’t just take place at Sunday School, but is something embedded within our lives. Israel is religious, political, historical, scientific, and so much more--as such, we want to encourage students and families to bring in articles, resources, excerpts about Israel you might find in your daily life or in the news. We will post the articles in the classroom (feel free to email or bring in a hard copy).
- Twinning School: This year our class has the privilege of participating in the School Twinning Network. This program is intended to strengthen the connection between Israel and global Jewry. Our class is paired with a fifth/sixth grade class in Israel at the HaYovel school in Yehud. We will build a personal connection with Israeli students and learn about Israel. We will start with introductions on Sunday!
- Upcoming Classes:
- Oct 29: Law of Return
- Nov 5: Tikun Olam Day
- Nov 12: The Green Line
As always please feel free to reach out to us with questions, concerns, and feedback!
