Spring 2017 Interim Rabbi Search Committee identifies Rabbi John Franken as Temple Shalom Interim Rabbi for one year (July 1, 2017-June 30, 2018).
July 2017 Rabbi Franken joins Temple Shalom; Temple Shalom President charges Senior Rabbi Search Committee; Search Committee chairs announce search committee members, search timeline, and search FAQs, and invite input from congregation.
Ongoing Search Committee provides updates to Temple Shalom congregation on progress of senior rabbi search
Summer/Early Fall 2017 Search Committee shares description of what we want in Temple Shalom’s senior rabbi and seeks input from congregation; Search Committee completes formal application and submits to Joint Commission for Rabbinic Placement for posting; Search Committee begins to review resumes and conduct initial telephone interviews.
Fall 2017 Search Committee continues to review and screen rabbi applications, conducts in-person interviews and sends committee representatives to make site visits to selected candidates' congregations if and when necessary and appropriate.
Late Fall/Early Winter 2017 Final candidates are invited to Temple Shalom for personal interviews; after deliberation, Search Committee recommends a candidate to Board of Trustees for approval. Board of Trustees approves candidate.
Winter 2018 Congregation holds special meeting of members to approve contract if new senior rabbi’s term is more than two years, as required by Temple Shalom’s Constitution.
Spring 2018 Transition Committee is formed to plan welcome for new rabbi.
May/June 2018 Congregation holds special event to say farewell and show appreciation to Rabbi Franken.
July 1, 2018 Temple Shalom welcomes new senior rabbi!
